Definitions and distinctions between Tai Chi and Qi gong are numerous, confusing and contested. So here they will be omitted. Instead I will merge them into one practice Tai Chi Gong, and speak specifically to their application in the treatment community.
The major benefits I see in the treatment world are:
State Shifts through Power Postures - Relaxed yet alert, it is difficult not to feel strong and capable. Increased blood flow and detoxification - Moving lymph, opening meridians, increasing oxygen intake and relaxed muscle movements can cause sincere emotional shifts. Mental Clarity & Focus - Leading to better decision making Feelings of Balance & Stability - Both in physiology and psychology Release of stress and anxiety - Diminishing two of the major gateways to relapse. A Portable Meditation Practice - These lessons are just as applicable while driving or working as during training. Self Defense - For confidence and real protection Overcoming Challenges - Because the way we do one thing is the way we do everything. Improvements in Health - These practices bring documented improvements in many facets of wellbeing including reduction of the leading causes of mortality. Physiological & Psychological Awareness - Metta practices into deeper states of being.
